Seems you are talking around the 500mhz powerpc cpus? It would take a 1,000mhz (1GHz) AMD/Intel cpu to overcome it. So getting a really cheap pc next to a single 2GHz cpu will be twice as fast, a dual cpu would be 2 1/4 faster.
