i enjoy a AMD Athalon 64. I was wandering where on earth i would find a motherboard that supports haveing 2 of the new 4x4 chipset optron dual cores for a single workstation use? or is it posible? i look online and adjectives i find are boards for the old Athalon MP 2800+. nearby like 462 socket or socket a. i entail for socket F(4x4). or do i have to procure a server board?
how i would turn around buildeing a mp system next to the exotic Optron dual cores?
Well the 4x4 platform does not actually use Opteron's, it uses Athlon FXs. The lone motherboard available (yes there is simply one right now) is this one:http://www.newegg.com/product/product.as... they changed the name to socker L presently, and its called Quad FX instead of 4x4, but this is what you are looking for. (I know its confusing, they maintain changing names). It will singular take the FX-70, FX-72, or FX-74 processors. Honestly the board is a bit of a excess, since a single Core 2 Quadro will outperform this setup.
Now if you do want multiple Opterons, yes you need a server board because those use a different socket. That is also a bit of a spend because it will end up costing you more than even the Quad FX, and will not achieve any better for workstation/desktop use.
As far as I know, you'll need a server board. But the other morning there be a story in the tech tabloids more or less someone using the Quad FX mobo with constant Opterons. The chips were compatible next to regular unbuffered DDR2 modules.
