You can will it on for as long as you like especially if it is contained by a well ventilate environment. But then you will be wasting electricity and you might appendage up as a big contributor to greenhouse gases.
Most ppl hold no problem leaving it on for long time period. When I do - I often gain a low on virtual memory message. It seems easier for me to boot and reboot to some extent than worry give or take a few that becoming a problem.
I have a Dell Dimension2400 and wonder if i.e. typical of this model.
