They usually finishing a very long time. Most of the time you will perceive it when you shut your computer down and unplug it or the electricity goes out - it will reset your BIOS and your computer's Date and Time will be wrong. No tangible big deal. If it dies completely next you will never be able to recover your CMOS/BIOS data. Simply turn to Wal-Mart and buy a new mobile - you can usually find them there, but for then be in motion to any computer store and you will find it there - more expensive though I'm sure. Once you amend it out you will have to set up your BIOS again, but consequently you will be good to stir, you could probably even just adopt default settings and turn from there. Hope this help...

The freestyle on the mobo keeps the rtc (real time clock) chip on the bios running. The worst that will crop up is you loose your bios settings and the hardware time. The bios will simply be reset to factory default and you loose any bios passwords you may hold set. A lot of mobos have capacitors for the bios that recharge when the laptop is plugged in, and the lithium batt individual kick within when it needs to - it can ending anything between 2 - 10 years. If you have a really really antiquated pc afterwards the battery used to be soldered (yup soldered!!) on, if your notebook is not older than 8 years, its most credible run by the big 2pence sized lithium batteries that most calculators run on. simply buy a spanking new one and replace the one on the mobo.
